He calls it the “one-eyed green monster”, or “werewolf”, or the ever popular “that time of the month”. Poor guy didn’t know what he was getting into when he married me. My kids even dread the full moon…because, yeah you get the idea.

I always felt that my moods were symptoms of PMS, but when I saw a doctor, they often placed me on anti-depressants for the days I was the “green-eyed monster”. Some even named it bi-polar. It has affected my relationships severely, and  been the cause of depression. The medicine gave me unpleasant side-effects, and it seemed as if there was no way out of my misery.
Luke formulated a simple formula of an adaptogenic herb and a hormone balancing herb, and we got through a month and we both went “That wasn’t so bad!” My skin stayed much clearer, and my mood swings didn’t affect me nearly as much. The next few months were also bearable. THEN, I ran out of the clinically proven supplements and herbs Luke had me on at the same time days before the “green-eyed monster” came to visit. I didn’t think it would be a big deal, but I thought wrong. Way wrong. It was back to “nightmare on Elm Street”. Horrible (still recovering). I got back on the herbs and supplements, and this month hits with strength, even moods, and clearer skin.

Of course, this isn’t the answer for everyone, and it surely isn’t completely cured and gone for me, but it is now bearble for me and the guy I live with (otherwise known as my husband). Not to mention the poor children.
I also have to watch intake of sugar and high-fatty foods and eat a lot of veggies, fruits, and whole grains…even when I don’t feel like it.

Finally, yoga is ever helpful because it has taught me to be an observer of my feelings, emotions, and attitudes about life. Yoga poses can counteract the way I’m feeling. For example, if I’m feeling low—backbends! If I’m feeling irritable and angry—forward folds! And, I always always take deep breaths when things can get overwhelming!
Glory be to God on High! I have found a bit of relief from my ever present PMS that I have dealt with my entire life. I know, I am Luke ‘s (ICandW certified herbalist, owner of ICandW) business partner and wife, but I have to give kudos to him for all his efforts and knowledge in helping me feel better!

Namaste,
Amie, the Yogi
