I had an awesome lesson on productivity today. It’s called the Pomodoro technique. Basically, it means taking 25-60 minutes of focused work followed by 5 min of a rewarding activity. Do three sessions of this, and your productivity will go through the roof.
What do you do when you need a break, or a reward for hard work, or just to turn off your brain? I’ll list some common ones that I know all of you do
-TV                -Check emails                 -Facebook                         -sit and do nothing
Well, in the lesson I had, Racheal Cook said she did Sun Salutations. What? To relax? BRILLIANT! Sun Salutations are known for
-Energizing and stretching your body     -Connecting mind and body to your breath (how often do you forget to breathe when you are stressed out at work?
-Stimulates blood flow
-Helps you focus on what is important.
I can’t even tell you how guilty I am on getting on FB to tune the world out and take a break.  In fact, I did it just the other day. I came home after being at an insanely busy kids carnival and hopped right onto FB. My kids were swarming about the house with tons of carnival energy trying to talk to me and do you know what I said? “Mommy is unavailable right now. Can’t you see I’m on the phone? Go play.” Uggg. What is this world coming to? What am I coming to? But, I know I’m not the only guilty party out there. I KNOW some of you can relate, and if not fb, then what is it? TV, internet, emails? I’m going to tell you how I felt after my little FB stint though
-unfulfilled
-irritable
-not enough
-angry
-totally disconnected
-guilty
-NO energy (if I watch too much TV, I feel this way)
SO, here’s my big idea. What if next time we need a break-break, kids break, work break, we try 3 rounds of Sun Salutations? 3 ROUNDS! That’s it. It will take you 5 minutes. After that, you can go ahead and sit down and do whatever it is you wanted to do to tune out…if you still feel like it.
Warning: you may
-feel more like kissing or cuddling, or interacting with your kids/spouse
-get a burst of creativity
-find the will to keep going
-go for a walk, or get outside
-call and actually TALK to a friend
-OR do some other activity that will help you to be the person you WANT to be.
