Mental health is one of the most important things to check up on each day. When you wake up in the morning, whether you know it or not, there are all kinds of emotions and thoughts that guide the course of your day. Listening to your body and mind, and really creating space for all those thoughts and feelings is a wonderful way to understand yourself and even give yourself some compassion.

Because journaling is such a great way to connect with yourself, we are sharing a list of reasons how journaling can begin to benefit you!

    Reduce Stress

Journaling is a tool to reduce stress! By getting everything out of your brain and onto paper, it helps you deal with the stressors in your life. Journaling can be confronting, but it’s such an amazing way to give yourself a sense of release. There are some things that we feel we can’t share with others for fear of judgment, but journals are a blank slate full of opportunity and free of judgment.

    Mental Clarity/Mindfulness

This is sort of similar to reducing stress. So many people have minds that are constantly racing with all kinds of thoughts. It’s so easy to get lost in the mix! Journaling can help you to trace your thoughts, consider where they come from, and act accordingly. Being present with your thoughts is hard to do when there are so many to sort through, so spending five to ten minutes journaling each morning can help you take guided, clear action throughout the rest of your day.

    Helps Memory

We are all guilty of forgetting some things here and there. Keeping a journal can help with boosting your memory. When we write down certain events, we are able to comprehend them, visualize them, and therefore keep them stronger within our memories.

    Improve Mood

Another noteworthy benefit of journaling is what it can do for your mood! Having a daily gratitude journal entry can help you remember what is important in your life, and create more happiness and intention. When we start feeling more gratitude, we live with less expectations and more awareness. Even dumping all the negative thoughts you have onto a page can feel like a massive release, and free you from the negativity.

Keeping a wellness journal can work wonders for your mental and overall health. If you are someone who feels low on time, then keep it short! There are no rules with journaling. The freedom of writing whatever you want, no matter how insignificant it may seem, gives you autonomy and honesty in your life. A journal is one of the only things that you can tell everything to without any judgment other than your own. Consider creating a journaling and gratitude practice to begin transforming your mental health in an incredibly simple way!
