Julie Thompson, LPC

Julie Thompson is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), credentialed and licensed in Idaho. She graduated from Idaho State University with a Master’s in Counseling in 2007 and has since worked in a variety of settings in Idaho and Alaska including working as a clinician for a university campus, working as a mental health provider for both outpatient and inpatient clients, and providing mental health counseling for a comprehensive residential addictions facility and a community health care center in remote Southwestern Alaska.

Earlier in her professional career, she worked as a Licensed Occupational Therapist. Her work in the fields of OT and as a Licensed Professional Counselor provided her with an opportunity to partner with individuals who, having the courage to ask for help, allowed her to become increasingly awake to the fact that she too suffered and to be truly effective in her work helping others, she needed to address her own suffering. She needed to start with myself! Healer heal thyself. Over the years, she has received training and certification with some of the most well respected national and international researchers and teachers in the growing field of mindfulness. She is currently a certified as a Teacher Trainer in the area of Mindful Self-Compassion and has co-facilitated many other Mindfulness based experiential groups that address a variety of personal needs, including Mindful Based Stress Reduction, Mindful Coupling, and Mindful Education for teachers, parents and children.

In her recent position as a Mental Health Clinician for a residential treatment center in remote Alaska, she was awed by the power of the human spirit and the capacity for people, when given the right tools, to transform the most paralyzing traumatic life chapters into stories of release and rebirth. Through mindful practices and other interventions, she witnessed individuals reconnecting with the truest version of themselves. By engaging ways of cultivating self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-love, like a phoenix from the ashes, we can transcend the impossible and arrive at a place of ease and contentment. Along with Mindfulness based approaches, Julie uses theory and techniques from ACT, CBT, EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Existential Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Theory, Psychoeducation, and Solution-Focused Therapy among other modalities.
