Roma Williams, LMFT
My name is Roma Williams, M.A., LMFT. Over the last 7 years, I have worked as a Marriage & Family Therapist in non-profit and community mental health agencies, as well as private practice. I have experience working with children and adolescents, families, individuals and couples, of all age and ethnicities, but I have focused on adult populations mostly over the last 4 years. My goal when working with clients is to help them achieve their best quality of life. I do this by highlighting client’s strengths and assist them in navigating through their challenges, in a collaborative approach. In addition to my work as a therapist, I am currently in the process of becoming an AAMFT approved supervisor, where I supervise student therapist in training.
As a marriage and family therapist, I understand that our experiences shape who we become and our relationships can show us more of who we are and why we connect with others. It is my job to work with my clients in order to help them navigate through life’s uncertainties, and challenges as they arise. The study and practice of marriage and family therapy is unlike any other in the psychotherapy field, in that we focus on the systems that are present in our lives, as well as the lives of our clients. In addition to my skills and training doing individual and relational work, being a trauma informed marriage and family therapist, as equipped me with a skill set that can assist clients identify trauma responses and learn tools to help them find peace.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University in 2010. From there, I obtained a Master’s of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy from the Mercer University school of Medicine in Atlanta, GA in 2012.
I have been practicing marriage and family therapy for 7 years. In Texas, I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT # 203285)
In regards to training, I have a M.A in Marriage & Family Therapy from Mercer University’s School of Medicine. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family therapy education (COAMFTE), providing the highest standard of training for marriage and family therapy.
I have had experience working with a wide variety of populations and issues, including adolescents, children, adults, couples, severely mentally ill and the elderly. Some of the issues that I have had experience with include divorce, blended families, abuse/victims of crime, grief, trauma, communication, symptom management, and family psychoeducation. In addition, I have some formal training working with CBT and DBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).
I have kept my Continuing Education Units/hours up to date with my LMFT licenses, both in Georgia and Texas which require me to keep up on the newest and latest research, workshops and trainings. I strive to continue to learn more techniques and trends to continue to bring my best efforts to the therapy room, and the enhance the lives of those who choose to work with me to help overcome their challenges.
